Jordan | Part 2 | Petra, serpentine and hot springs
Ma'in Hot Springs
A stunning serpentine road to and from Ma'in Hot Springs.
Cost for tourists: 14 JOD (21 USD) / per person

The place is not worth the money, unfortunately, these are hot springs for the locals, and there is no infrastructure for tourists (no clean showers, no clean toilets). I do not recommend visiting. But at the same time, the roads have amazing beauty and quality, which are worth a ride.

Petra (Wadi Musa), Petra Corner Hotel
Very friendly staff, able to help with all questions. Great room, breakfast, and view from the room. Located 10 minutes walk from the Petra Visitor Center. Private parking in the backyard.

Hotel 9/10, definitely recommend.

Petra
An ancient city, the capital of Idumea (Edom), later the capital of the Nabataean kingdom.

To visit I recommend 1 day (more for amateurs), I also recommend leaving at 6-7:00 in the morning, because at this time you can visit most of the attractions in solitude or with a minimum number of people.

The cost is 50 JOD, but we purchased the Jordan Pass in advance (be sure to read how it is beneficial) with 1 day of visiting Petra.

You should take with you:

  • food (snacks, bars), hotels also offer snack boxes (sandwiches, fruits)
  • water
  • there are cafes, and shops on the territory, but naturally, the cost will be overpriced

Throughout the journey, you will be offered to shorten your path on horses, camels, or donkeys. Unfortunately, this is a hell of a job for animals, which I would not recommend encouraging. Especially the 800 steps up to the donkey monastery is hell. You can safely visit the basic sights with your own feet, about 20,000 steps were taken in a day, but you must take into account the strongest elevation changes.
