Morocco: Colors of Marrakech
By: Evgeny Padezhnov
The Medina
The medina of Marrakech is organized chaos. Narrow alleyways twist and turn, opening into hidden courtyards with fountains and orange trees. You will get lost. That’s the point.
Every corner has something new — a spice stall with pyramids of turmeric and cumin, a leather workshop where artisans work by hand, a tiny cafe serving the sweetest mint tea you’ve ever tasted.
Jardin Majorelle
A oasis of calm in the madness of the city. The electric blue buildings against the green of the gardens — it’s like walking into a painting. Yves Saint Laurent clearly had taste.
The Food
Moroccan cuisine is incredibly underrated:
- Tagine — slow-cooked in clay pots, every restaurant has their own recipe
- Couscous Friday — the traditional weekly meal
- Pastilla — sweet and savory pie that shouldn’t work, but absolutely does
- Fresh orange juice — 4 dirhams (less than $0.50) for the best OJ of your life
Morocco is sensory overload in the best way possible. If you can handle the chaos, you’ll love every second.
